So Paddled South has opened within the last couple months. Good to see High Point successfully get a new brewery (bringing HP's total to 3 with Goofy Foot and Brown Truck). Unfortunately, it seems the High Pint concept has gone dead as there was a "for sale" sign in front of the building last time I was by there. Sad because I thought the idea had a lot of promise, but oh well.
I didn't see this yesterday when I posted about Paddled South, but it appears a new brewery opens in Eden tomorrow; Reynolds Brewery. I know Eden is more on the edge of the Triad, but I might have to check this place out before checking out the drive in theater one of these days.
A veteran brewer is planning a new downtown brewery and taproom that could be open by the end of the year.
Erik Henriksen expects work to begin as soon as next week on Intrepid Brewing Co. at 102 Barnhardt St. in Greensboro, just off South Elm Street and just south of the railroad tracks. Henriksen, a retired IT professional, is also owner of Triad Homebrew Supply Inc. near the corner of Market Street and Guilford College Road.
Located next to the Christman Co., which renovated the historic Cascade Saloon at 408 S. Elm St., Intrepid will be housed in a 3,600-square-foot building that previously housed Jae-Mar Brass & Lamp Co. building. In addition to renovating the building, Henriksen said he plans a new 2,000-square-foot patio.
Another brewery... does anyone else feel downtown is getting saturated with breweries.. or is that what any downtown basically is now...I Mean geez I'm 40 and enjoy a cocktail or 2 but I feel like downtown is Turning into one big bar crawl.. or should I say keg crawl ;p.. just. Wish more actually shopping stores would come to downtown . Or maybe a art museum or something a person can do besides drink or eat.

Frankly, Greensboro is behind on downtown breweries if anything. With Little Brother, Natty Greene's (if you still consider it a brewery), SouthEnd, and now this one, that's only four downtown breweries (if you stretch boundaries, you could justify including Oden and Pig Pounder perhaps). Most downtowns these days are full of places to eat and drink. But there is a baseball stadium, the performing arts center, LeBauer Park, and a number of options that don't (have to) involve drinking or eating.
I've said it before, but I'd love to see another self-pour place like Horigans give it a whirl downtown. The spot would need a more open space and more food options than Horigans.
Not to mention, this IS the brewery thread... so you're going to read a lot about places to drink.
Ops thanks for pointing out that this is the brewery thread. Thought It was just the general downtown thread when I posted .. I did like Horgnas but it was soo tiny.. Def would probbahave survived if they had a patio aera and not have been in a cramped location.
Not much to update since the last post. I did finally check out Paddled South and it's a nice addition to High Point IMO. Looking forward to getting a beer, hitting the food hall, and then taking in a ball game in a few months.
Also very much looking forward to Steel Hands. That's a great spot with a TON of potential. Per their website, they're hiring now. I'd guess early Spring maybe?
In an interesting observation: sometimes my way of discovering new places is to simply pull up Google Maps and look around. In doing so the other day, at what appears to be an abandoned gas station (901 S Broad St. Winston-Salem), there's marker for (ironically enough) Lesser Known Beer Company. I included the link below but all the website says at this time is "Spring 2022" and a confirmation of the address. I'm not sure if this will be a brewery or more of a beer store (like Potent Potables in Jamestown or Brewers Kettle). But it's something to watch nonetheless.

So, I was about two weeks ahead, but the word's out. Lesser-Known Beer is on the way and is a brewery. They will have one "hoppy" beer on tap at all times, but will focus on lagers and "older styles of beer".
The "Lesser-Known" name comes from the idea of introducing people to lesser-known styles of beer, such as kellerbier.
Gotta say, this looks like a cool addition to the Winston-Salem brewery scene. It appears to be in an interesting location combined with serving "different" styles of beer rather than the traditional IPAs and sours you see everywhere else.
Unfortunately, there's isn't any new or more concrete information for a timeline on opening.
