Forbes Magazine named Winston-Salem one of the 14 best places to visit in 2019. And I am not surprised. Go Winston-Salem! Check it out! https://t.co/RpuJgzmw2K
Winston-Salem’s reputation as a retirement haven has gained another national boost — this time being ranked No. 7 by U.S. News & World Report for 2020.
The ranking, released today, has Winston-Salem catapulting 38 spots from the 2019 ranking. It is listed as the second-best retirement option in North Carolina behind Asheville at No. 4. Fort Myers, Fla., was ranked first.
U.S. News said its rankings of 125 metropolitan statistical areas are geared toward two demographics: those ages 45 to 59 nearing retirement age; and those of retirement age.
Pardon my ignorance, but should we be celebrating the highest ranking for seniors? I wouldv’e thought they would be focusing on millennials.
However, people moving in, Regardless of age is always welcome, but I thought the triad was trying to shake the image of a senior citizen destination.
However I am very curious why Winston is 7th yet it’s sister city Greensboro just barely cracked the hundreds spot, I find this rather interesting as both cities are close and damn near identical in more ways than one.
Winston Salem native here. I guess all that's nice, but I have always detested the area and cannot wait to leave. I'd never have guessed that this little city would be considered an IT magnet. Can't see how it ranks as a desirable place to live though, when you factor in the crime rate for its size. As for visitors, there is nothing to see here outside of Old Salem, IMO.

I strongly disagree. There's Reynolda House, SECCA, MESDA, the downtown arts district, shows at the Stevens Center, River Run Film Festival, National Black Theater Festival, Wake Forest athletic events, area wineries, local live music, etc.
