I don't know how feasible an aquarium actually would be, but they are having studies done it. This study said it would draw folks from all over the country. Personally Id rather have money like that put toward a light rail line but this is Michigan lol.

New Orleans makes an aquarium work, and metro NOLA isn’t that much bigger than metro GR.

Well I'm not saying it couldn't work. I think the difference here though being that New Orleans is a much bigger tourist destination than Grand Rapids by an order of magnitude.

More apartments planned near Division and Wealthy(Wealthy and Sheldon to be precise). These are market rate which I think might balance nicely with the LIHTC units currently underway in that area. The area between Fulton and Wealthy near the St. Mary's campus is full of parking lots from a previously dense neighborhood. I really think this area is the next part of the downtown periphery to get filled in. There are already a few projects proposed. Re-adding density to that part of the city would go along way in supporting the Division corridor.

The city is finally going through with its plan to renovate Lyon Square between the Amway Hotel and the convention center. The renderings make it seem like they are trying to turn it into a beachy green space. Look's like maybe they are tearing out that boardwalk that goes between the blue bridge and the Amway?

Gentex opens a tech hub downtown GR. Primary goal is to attract/retain talent. A lot of suburban and rural companies have been investing more in GR lately. Makes me wonder If we'll ever see a bigger player at the state level like Whirlpool, or Kellogg invest in work space in city.

Accrisure donating $30 million to the amphitheater project secures the naming rights. I expect we will see a lot of movement on this over the next 6 months.

More Acrisure news. They have outgrown their brand new headquarters and are now leasing more space in 64 Ionia. They are considering plans to construct more office space. Back when they announced their original headquarters it was quickly followed with renderings of a mid rise office tower across the street to accompany it. It's unclear if this concept tower, or that specific lot is part of their planning. The lot for the proposed tower directly abuts US-131 and would look really cool from the freeway IMO.

I was in the new gate area of GRR for the first time in September- it’s very nice and the food options are great. I’m looking forward to the finish of the project.
