Yes, you got it. They are offering something FREE to you in the chance that you would be interesting in buying access to their data resources now or at a later time.
I also think it's in their best interest to update everyone. If they required a fee for the update, lots of people wouldn't do it, and then they'd have to maintain each of previous versions, which is more work for them, takes up more of their resources, etc.
My Nigeria region barely budged, now at 38% from 39% before, and down Benin/Togo from 15% to 13%. Cameroon/Congo/Bantu went up another four points to 22%, and up in Senegal and Ghana/Ivory Coast at 6% and 4%, respectively. I'm surprise that my Mali dropped by so much to now only 4%. I got a few trade-offs with new regions. 1% England/NW Europe went away for 2% Ireland, and largest region in Europe is 7% Scotland when it used to be Wales at 5%(now just 1%). Norway went from 2% to 1%. They replaced Northern Africa with 1% Egypt, and this makes the third update I have a small amount of Middle Eastern or North African. I no longer have 1% Indigenous Americas North, but kept 1% IA Yucatan Peninsula.
Well glory be.
I just checked my Ancestry page and they updated again. After the first September update they fiddled with it and, voila, I'm Pomeranian. This is considered a "community" and they actually zeroed in to the general neighborhood of northern Pomerania and identified matches from that same area. My ancestors moved around among several manor farms, about 8-10 miles inland from the Baltic Sea. I have been bellyaching about this for years but they finally figured it out. I grant that it isn't easy to do because of the purging of "Germans" from that part of Poland after WW2. The Germanic population was replaced by people forced westward from eastern Poland by the Soviets so the DNA profile of that area would not be similar to what it was before the war.
