Hi,

Could I get some current thoughts & input on the High Schools available in Fargo & West Fargo please? I have two teen girls. Both are good students. One plays sports. Need to pick out a house soon in the correct area for the school of choice.

Thank you in advance!

The newest high schools are West Fargo Sheyenne and Fargo Davies. Both would be fine with good sports programs.... West Fargo HS as well is fine, Fargo South HS is good as well, but not quite as strong in sports as in the past due to Davies zapping some of their population. Fargo North is a bit smaller but also decent sports program. Schools in terms of academics are pretty solid....I wouldnt put one other the other. Most would depend on teacher, etc.... Do be careful on WF/Fargo schools, as there is pretty large section in SW Fargo in the city of Fargo but within West Fargo schools.

I have no specific input....I have lived in the RRV for 20 years....but my children are in another town school system.

It all depends on what sport your daughter plays. Tennis--South has been stronger in recent years compared to West Fargo or Sheyenne. Softball? Probably West Fargo. Swimming or cross country--North high for certain. Volleyball strength has varied widely depending on individual players.
I would still put academics as being stronger at the Fargo schools than West Fargo, however, but perhaps I'm biased in that my two kids have graduated from South in the last 4 years. That's based on comparing where Fargo schools have been in the number of AP scholars and state champs in Quiz Bowl, for example.

Thank you for the input. We toured Davies last week on a teacher in service day - got an informative & friendly tour. We tried to do the same at Cheyenne - same teacher in service day. It ended up a self guided tour unfortunately but we were happy to at least do that.

Great to hear. That is the right way to do it....visit the schools themselves. In terms of academics you cant go wrong with any school....sure some are newer with fancier stuff but overall regardless of which HS your children go to they will be well prepared for after HS life. For sports....visiting as you are doing is the best as prev poster said each schools is a bit stronger in certain sports.

Good luck

Dan
