1 being the most important quality, & 10 being the least important quality a Presidential candidate could have.
I'd put it at 6th.
I'd rank the following higher:
1) trustworthy/honesty
2) positions on top issues
3) track record of success/achievement/leadership
4) intelligent (high IQ doesn't always equate to success)
5) determined/persistent/strong willed
I know how I would rank the 1-6. I think they are all important but given that Sleepy Lying Joe is in office and not Trump we have a majority in this country that do not care about anything on that list.
Only twice in my life has the less charismatic candidate won - and the first might be a stretch.
Reagan was much more charismatic than Carter and Mondale
GHWB might have been more charismatic than Dukakis. This is the iffy one.
Bill was lightyears more charismatic than Bush and Bob Dole
GWB was more charismatic than Gore and maybe Kerry. 2004 is a little iffy too.
Obama was more charismatic than McCain or Romney.
DJ was more charismatic than Hilary
Joe isn't more charismatic than DJ. That's how bad a candidate DJ was in 2020!
Personality/charisma ranks pretty low for me too. One particular person comes to mind in that regard and he was a disaster for this country - Obama.
So I agree with your list.
I dont see a strong correlation between personality/charisma and strong Presidential performance.
I saw an article today online criticizing DeSantis for not having a dynamic personality, so it got me to pondering how importnt that is to voters.
If somebody is highly unlikeable, or caustic, or a just a plain jerk, then I can see it hurting their chances of getting elected, or being effective. I don't put any of our recent President's in that category.
Nixon, & Johnson were no more personable than DeSantis. The Bush's were C+ in personality, Obama B+, Kennedy A-, Reagan A-....my perceptions only. Trump was loved by 45% hated by 55%, & he was seen as an arrogant, prior to entering political life...but so was Obama. Biden's no Mr. Personality...he gets nasty when challenged.
I'd put height as the next most important characteristic of a candidate. The taller candidate almost always wins, but charm wins out over height - a giant wallflower will lose to a short king.
Everything else doesn't matter to the masses in "the middle" that decide elections.

My confidence level of the Independents (masses in the middle as you call them) has never been lower.
They very well could vote for the taller candidate, or the most charming, which means my life is being partially controlled, by brainwashed low-information voters....just swell.
Independent voter = heavily infuenced by People Magazine & The National Enquirer, & Entertainment Tonight (is that still a tv show?).
Given this sad state of affairs, my best strategy is to insulate myself as much as possible from them, & the federal government.

I honestly don't know how exactly one differentiates between (1) trustworthy/honesty and (6) personality/charisma/likeability. Being trustworthy and being likeable are inseparable in my book.
I'd also point out that charisma and personality are very subjective. I can point to both Bill Clinton and Donald Trump - each had enthusiastic fan bases, but each had their legions of haters as well. Note that neither Clinton nor Trump, each of whom participated in two separate presidential elections, ever won an absolute majority of the popular vote.

I can pretty much agree with this.
