How long has this "pending criminal indictment" been pending, exactly? What difference would this announcement make anyways/

He announced early hoping to stop an indictment. But Garland appointed a special council so Trump's gamble failed.

I was watching a TikTok with Bill O'Reilly doing an analysis saying there are already, out of the gate, 213 electoral votes from "blue" states that will absolutely never, ever go Trump's way in the election. That is a serious deficit to start out with, for any president running.

Trump was impeached, was extremely divisive, had an abrasive personality that many agree is not a leader America needs, and incited an insurrection when it was clear he had lost the election.

I do believe all of the investigations and legal troubles he is facing, is partly driving his re-election drive. That, coupled with his unhinged craving for power.

Trump needs to go away, step aside, and remain out of politics.
Your too kind. Trump needs to go away, step inside a prison a cell and THEN remain out of politics. Biggest threat to the USA since the civil war.

Absolutely Trump should run.

It will help Pubs to determine the level of support for Trump versus DeSantis, so we can select the strongest candidate for the general election.

This is called a Primary, & that is the purpose of a Primary.

Trump still leads DeSantis in approval rating...for now...the gap is closing fast.

As I noted in another thread, the Florida legislature is about to jettison the law that mandates that a sitting official running for higher office (example: governor running for President) resign his or her seat. This law has been amended on several occasions since 2008, as circumstances warrant.

It certainly will clear the way for Mr. DeSantis to run.

As for Mr. Trump, can any supporter enlighten us as to his fund-raising? Is he sending out emails and such to raise money for his campaign?

I knew that, up to last week, he was sending out such emails for his Leadership PAC, but now that he has filed, has he changed over to seeking money for his actual campaign?

I can't foresee Trump accepting any other Republican winning the nomination over himself, and likewise he will never acknowledge another potential defeat in the general election. Any scenario where the numbers aren't in his favor implies fraud, and he won't be quiet in verbalizing his gripes and firing up his angry base of supporters. The next couple years are going to be very challenging for both the Republican party and the country as a whole.

I am seeing continuous mention of Gov. DeSantis. What I have not seen is any announcement from Gov. DeSantis that he is or will declare himself a candidate. What makes everyone so certain he is going to run? Looking at him I can see some reasons why he might wait.

I do not believe he thinks for a moment his announcing would stop an indictment.

I am not a die hard Trump fan. However, he surprisingly kept Hillary out of the Oval office. I don't like Biden, Harris or De Santis. If Trump and de Santis debate, ratings would soar. $$$ media bux...merchandise..$$$. I know a lot of people don't want Trump back in, but every time the law gets after him, he wiggles out of trouble. It's a fact. I will wait and see. I prefer a 3rd party win, but it's all out of my hands. Democrats are not my granny's version. They are out of control.

If he's smart, he'll wait until the last minute possible to declare. He's trying to re-write FLA law so he doesn't have to resign as Gov to run for Prez. If that passes, he can't lose either way...watch that bill closely.
