With people reporting different results, I guess I won’t know for sure about the effect of oatmeal on me personally unless I start taking blood sugar readings after having it for breakfast.
Yesterday while in the grocery store I compared the nutrition information on the steel cut oats versus the old fashioned oats. No difference on the label. That makes me question if steel cut really are any healthier.
None of this is reducing my confusion of the pros/cons
Steel cut oats offer more bulk bang for your bucks. That is even with consuming a smaller portion of steel cut oats compared to "old fashioned" or "quick" you'll feel fuller faster and longer. Thus you consume few calories and slow digestion of that added "bulk" evens out blood sugar levels.
I really liked oatmeal.
I was a little disappointed - and hard to convince - when I found it was not real food. Yeah. Should only be consumed by desperate humans fending off starvation.
After heart surgery, I gave it up. Switched to eggs and pork chops.
Never felt better than I do now.
Cholesterol 134; Triglycerides 60; 5'10"/180, which is down 30 pounds since I changed my diet. Makes me a little angry with the food industry.
In cold weather my husband will cook a big batch of steel cut oats in the crockpot and keep it in the fridge, then will microwave his bowl of oatmeal in the morning. I've just recently started having some of this, about 1 1/2 T with cinnamon and nuts, no added milk or sweetener. I have this after my regular breakfast of eggs and veggies. I was starting to feel like I was overloading on protein and wasn't feeling that well, and needed to gain a few pounds. Adding this to my morning routine seems to have helped.
I should eat oatmeal more...I do like it. I started adding powdered peanut butter to the oats as both a flavor and protein boost, and it's quite tasty!
