Yes, I guess so. The secret is out.
I have seen 1976 Schwinn Stingray bicentennial editions for sale for $1,200.
I can't compare old vs new Stingrays because they are not made anymore. Except for the reproduction for sale on Amazon.com and Wal-mart. I do have a 2019 repo Stingray. My vintage ones have much better build quality. For example, one of the pedals actually came apart on the repo. I had to buy aftermarkets pedals at a local bike store. That never happened with my vintage (1969) Stingray. And I rode it a lot on bumpy dirt roads. Speaking of the '69, the pedals spin freely even after it was sitting outside for over 15 years! They don't spin nearly as well on the '19 repo.
The repo Stingrays don't have the solid feel that the vintage ones have. I noticed it right away after riding both. Coasting is much better on my 1969 and 1980. And the gearing on the 2019 is lower (higher numerically) compared to the vintage bikes (single-speed). Which means more pedaling per mile on the repo.
