Columbia could do so much more with the public lands it has. Then again many from Columbia have never heard of or been to the Congaree Park unfortunately.

Unfortunately, I think this is largely true. It's a shame because it's really a sight to behold and one of the last remaining floodplain hardwood forests around. People hear the word "swamp", which is technically incorrect when classifying the Congaree, and think mosquitos and Dagobah system from Star Wars. I suppose people would rather be at Columbiana Centre.

A lot of people would rather go to their local neighborhood pool and local parks versus driving into the city to a go to a park that turned ghettoish.

Have you been to the Congaree National Park? It's practically in the middle of nowhere. There's a few houses nearby but hardly ghettoish. That wouldn't keep me away, anyway.
