Hello friends,

I am from Phoenix.... we have plenty of scorpions here crawling around.
We find them in our shoes, closets, couch etc... you name it.
My kid has asthma and I'm looking into other areas to move to... the last thing I need is for my kid to get stung by a scorpion.

The question is: Are there scorpions in Colorado Springs?
How often do you find them? Do they invade homes much like they do here in Phoenix?
Are there other critters you worry about in Col. Springs?

I'd love to hear your thoughts answers and opinions.

Technically, yes, there are striped bark scorpions in Colorado Springs. Are you likely to find one? No.

If you head a little further south to Pueblo you'll be far more likely to see creepy crawlies like scorpions, sun spiders, and Texas Brown Tarantulas.

In eleven years in COLO SPGS the only one I saw was the home of a friend. I never even heard them discussed.

I once saw a tiny one up on Mt. Cutler that was the exact same color as the surrounding Pikes Peak granite - that's it in 43 years here.

Nope. Maybe with global warming we'll eventually get there but that's not a thing here right now. As for critters here - we do have rattlesnakes, black bears, coyotes and mountain lions but it is not that common to run into one, particularly in town or suburbia. The biggest insect problem is, of all things, the miller moth invasion which happens some years in May/June - it skipped us this year.

16+ years, never seen one, never heard of one. Parents are in AZ, so familiar with the concept, just doesn't really happen here.

We have lots of critters, what specifically are you concerned about? This year has had it's share of bear problems, but unless you live in certain areas, you're unlikely to experience that. I run into rattlesnakes fairly often, but I'm a hiker. If you don't hike, chances are you won't see as many (but they are around & you need to be aware). I had a mice infestation b/c our new home was built on fields where they've lived for years. The foxes have all but disappeared in my hood :-(. We have coyotes, but they're not usually a problem. I've seen everything Otowi has mentioned except for mountain lion.

The biggest problem though, is the Miller Moth migration, twice a year & yes, some areas just south of here, get Tarantula migrations.

I've never even seen scorpions in the Cos metro. Further east and south of town I have seen small ones, but never in town, although I'm sure its possible. Invading homes, unlikey to ever see that.

We do have some pretty good sized wolf spiders on the south side of town. As otowi points out, we do have the occasional rattlesnake (west and east sides of town) and a lot of larger mammal predators throughout the city.

We did have a couple of grasshopper invasion of biblical proportions ....back in 1874 and 1937.

I've lived here 40 years.

Critters I've seen: Rattle snakes, lots of gopher snakes, mice, owls, eagles, lots of deer, two cougars, quite a few raccoons, foxes and coyotes.

Very few mosquitos but quite a few yellow jackets.

I haven't run into any scorpions.
