I'm actually considering purchasing in that area - in terms of new businesses (grocery, etc...) - are you aware of anything coming? I realize it's not that far to Little River/Myrtle, but I'm not big on driving

Coastal Walk Marketplace opened in Shallotte in 2020. Hobby Lobby, Marshalls, Ross, PetSmart, among other outparcels. That's in the same area as Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Belk, and Tractor Supply.
There is a Publix and Lowe's Foods at OIB. I don't think you are going to get much more than all of this until the year round population grows more. Food Lion at Sunset Beach and Shallotte.
