Sadly, many were departing from the faith (His truth) before the last apostle, John, died. They began building their own churches (denominations), inventing their own man made traditions. They were not “of God.” The RCC is one of the earliest denominations on record. You’re right in that regard.

Many people do not understand that the sign in front of the building doesn’t determine whether they are the church that Jesus built. Whether it be Catholic, Orthodox, Baptist. Methodist, church of Christ, etc. isn’t the determining factor. What matters is whether they hold to the traditions of the apostles, both spoken and written.

”Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle.”. (2Timothy 2:15)

Thanks for your response MsKate.

On the above (that I bolded) - we know from early Christian Ignatius of Loyola (who was taught by John) in the year 107ad that:

"But consider those who are of a different opinion with respect to the grace of Christ which has come unto us, how opposed they are to the will of God."
"They abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer, because they confess not the Eucharist to be the flesh of our Saviour Jesus Christ, which suffered for our sins, and which the Father, of His goodness, raised up again. Those, therefore, who speak against this gift of God, incur death in the midst of their disputes."

Do you consider Ignatius of Loyola to have been corrupt?
