So my partner has a job in littleton near chatfield state park and I am debating accepting a job in north boulder. Where would be good places to look for housing between these two? Ideally I want a yard and our budget would be around 750k but I really really hate commuting. I am currently living in texas so this job would get me to CO but I'm not sure I want to make an 1hr+ commute. is there a middle ground place to live where both of our commutes wont be more than 35 minutes(in our budget/ not a super crappy place to live) ? start times for both of us can vary between 5 am and 9 am.

thanks!

Is Boulder the only place you can get the job? For instance, if you're in tech there are plenty of jobs closer to Littleton - Highlands Ranch, Denver Tech Center, Inverness, and Lone Tree for starters. Generally speaking the north-south commute to Boulder from the western side of the Denver metro area sucks.

I don't think the locations are workable. Most businesses here I hear don't have snow days so even if you find a place that meets your requirements during summer the commutes can turn nightmarish in winter. Maybe you should decide on the basis of whose employer is more flexible in terms of remote work.

Your partner is working in Littleton, but you're in TX? He's actually living in CO, not working remotely? If you take the job in Boulder, you could maybe live in Arvada or Westminster, and at least you two would be closer to each other...? Until you find a better solution? Realistically, that might be the best you could do. Where does your partner live, exactly? Is Boulder your only job option? Has your partner not advised you on this?

More info needed.

Arvada would put you in the middle.

I would suggest renting as it would leave you the option to look for a job closer to your partner and you can buy a house nearby later once you figure that out.

my partner just moved out there for work so is living in an apartment in littleton as a temporary solution until I get down there. As of now the boulder job is the only offer so I'm not sure if i should wait on others or not instead of doing the drive. Google only says 30 minutes from arvada to both areas but I dont think i should believe this since everyone says its really bad
I would only have to go into office 3 days a week but I'll be honest, my commute is only 10 minutes right now and I'm not sure i can go much past 30 . My partner has to go into office everyday of the week so both of us will be commuting.

The commute would definitely get old but is doable. I know a few people who commute from Denver metro to Boulder. You definitely would not be alone. It’s not like you’d have to stay at the job in Boulder forever. You can always find something new with time.

I thought coming from Texas you would be used to long commutes. I guess it must be San Antonio or one of the smaller cities. In any case you're right not to trust Google. Perhaps you can find another job once you move here. I moved here from Houston and I would say it is overall more stressful to drive around here. The street lighting aren't as extensive and it can get hilly in parts. The locals I think are also more aggressive drivers. Also it gets dark here at around 4:30 so that might affect your evening commute.

thanks for all the answers! here's another question, which would be better commute to boulder daily or the commute to Colorado springs assuming living in the middle between either of them and littleton? I may have an option to work Co springs instead

That's like choosing between a root canal and a kidney stone. The Boulder commute is better, but they both really suck.
