For the 7-10 teams, would it be better if 7 plays 10, at 7 homecourt, and 8 plays 9, at 8 homecourt?

This rewards the 7 team, to play a weaker team, just like 1-8 playoffs. But then again nba loses 1 game each of revenue.

The current format is not fair for the 7 team, had it not been for this, they would be in the playoffs for sure.

I support it but that means 7 and 8 could miss the playoffs by just losing 1 game.
Let say you got 50 wins at 7th and lose to 10th seed that got 40 wins, that sucks.

Yes, but also the 7th team is much stronger than the 10th, its a much higher chance of winning, compared to playing the stronger 8th seed, if lose, now they have to play another game.

Currently the 7 seed has two chances to make the playoffs via the play in tourney. Win a home game against the 8 seed, or win a home game against the 9/10 seed. I don't see how a one and done against the 10 seed is inherently more fair. If the Pelicans lost to the Warriors last night in a 7/10 game, they'd just be out. As it stands, they've got another shot to get in.

I finally understood it this season. It's ok, but I had a hell of a time explaining it to my 10 year old.

Well, would you rather play a weaker team and win or go home, or play a team thats almost as strong as you, if ypu lose, you have to win against probably the 9th seed team, which is still stronger than the 10th seeded team. Injuries, wear and tear on the second game will add up as ypu go deep into the playoffs.

I'd rather be a six seed and not worry about it at all.

However, I'd rather have two shots at a one and done scenario than just one. The gap between a 7 seed and a 10 is generally not a big one.

It is a thing where its probably better with the old system of no play in, a 11th seeded team still tries to make it to the 10th, but as a 10th, even if you make the playoffs, its literally a 0% chance of the ring.

Under the old system, a 11th seed team might start tanking and hopefully get to the 14th seed and get that #1 pick next year. At least theres hope for the future.

One good this about the play in is if a top team slides in the standing due to injury, they still have a chance for a come back if healthy if they ended up in 9-10. You never know if you are a 7-8 seed and run into a team with injures and make your way up. Look at the Warriors, gone due to 1 bad shooting game and then Look at the Bulls, they beat a injured Hawks team about to play the Heat probably without Butler too, so they are doing way better than anyone though they would right now.
