The shortage of ATCs might be to blame. They should up the retirement age so more people could trained and hired.
Yep they need to up the age relative to maximum forced retirement age which is 56, that is absurd. Also to apply to become ATC one has to be 30 or younger (one exception is former military).

It really sounds like it was an ATC mistake. However, not sure they should be thrown under a bus. From what I've read, they are short staffed and a lot of the experienced controllers have retired. Having flown in that area as a private pilot, those controllers have their hands full constantly.

It is absurd that these policies are still in place as even the airline pilot retirement age was raised from 60 to 65 (besides that full social security entitlement is now 67).
