It's been a while since I've seen one of these, but in some areas near tourist destinations, there will be an informational sign along the highway that says "For visitor information, tune into ____ AM". I imagine there was some lobbying on the part of that sorts of tourism/chamber of commerce type interests.
Likewise. But I do listen to it in major major cities...New York and Chicago major, not Raleigh or Charlotte major.
with all the gizmos in the cars today - especially inverters which are not shielded AT ALL - I would expect it to sound like hell, like a late 60s model with a bad ignition condenser going south...or worse.
And with more and more EV's on the road...it isn't getting better.
It is absolutely getting better. You think EV;s with AM radios don't take that into effect and shield the antenna? Really?
If an EV Maker doesn't want to shield the AM antenna properly..then they don't put an AM radio in. Like Tesla and BMW.
AM radio has never sounded better in any cat then it does in my modern vehicle "with all those gizmos".
Or they don't have them. No AM radio on the Polestar. Mildly annoying, sometimes in remote areas it would be nice. I pretty much always have podcasts and audiobooks downloaded though really I just miss sports radio in remote areas with no reception where I can't stream it.

I wasn’t referring to the driver experience or quality of audio systems in EV’s. The RF noise floor has been increasing for years, and with more EV’s on the road that won’t get better. That’s all.

Agreed. When Wooster changed to LED traffic lights, I could hear the light change on my radio while waiting at the stop light. The standards for RF interference need to be tightened.
