A good article here - the new Lexus might be good and they know what to do - they know most people still spend time on the road and the GX550 handles well on the road. Add in Lexus reliability.
Also, you can buy two GX550s and still have money left over VS buying a Mercedes G-wagon?
It's great to be an off-road fan with cash to burn. Automakers have been hard at work improving their established 4x4s. Pole position is now held by Lexus with its new GX550. So we took one to Pennsylvania along with a Land Rover Defender and a Mercedes-Benz G550 to suss out which rock-crawls past the others in this high-brow, high-luxury, high-profit wheeling segment.
By all accounts the Land Rover is a reliabilty pit and the MB G series is a reliability pit that drives like a horrible pig on the road (where 99% of them spend 99% of their time).
Me, I'd get a Suburban/Tahoe, 4WD, and option it up - of course, if you really want actual off-road capability you buy a Jeep or a Hi-Lux with a topper...
The Defender is unibody IIRC and nobody buying an MB G550 is going to be seen in something as pedestrian as a Lexus....
My friend who’s a self made multimillionaire (makes many millions per year, grew up poor) has new model G63, she likes attention and this brings it. They have other $300k plus vehicles too.
If you buy a Toyota truck, make sure to run and have the frame coated . They rust by the minute.
I’ve been looking at 100 series land cruisers and the amount of rust on them would make a scientist go crazy.
Unless you are in southern states using it to get to a steak house on sunny days. Even then, don’t risk it.

that's all old Toyota news. New ones don't have the issue
That's from over a year ago and they've released more updates to it where it's even better at off-roading.
