Oh, ok.
Then I guess you can claim Cliff Richey, Fess Parker, & Ernest Tubb too.

My point was that the slathering over celebrities was something we just didn't do, and the celebrities appreciated that and that's why they chose to live here. Start drooling all over the idea of celebrity and you'll drive them off.

Forgive me, I grew up learning about this from childhood. I remember a kindly old grandfather when I was a girl who was a friend of my father's. I never saw him in anything but overalls (East Texas farm and oil country). The thing that impressed me most about him was that on his farm he had a nice stocked bass lake and we sometimes went out there and went out with him in his bass boat fishing. It was only years later that I found out who Clint Murchison, Sr., was (look it up) and that small countries trembled when he looked in their direction. He definitely meet the criteria of celebrity, and I am absolutely sure, based on those experiences and others then and since with people in similar wealth categories, that one reason we got to go fishing was because we didn't think of them as "celebrities" but as people.

Perhaps not, but it's sad to see them lose one of the few places where they can be treated as human beings rather than "celebrities", and for Austin to lose that uniqueness.

Lol
Cliff Richey - pretty famous tennis champion from 50 years ago - won the Davis Cup.
Fess Parker - TV Actor (& UT alum) who played Davy Crockett in the Walt Disney series and also Daniel Boone.
Ernest Tubb - The Texas Troubadour, famous C&W star from the ‘50s & ‘60s.

All from San Angelo - west & southwest of the Colorado River.

Mattress Mack has a cozy little 10K sf lake cottage on the north shore of Travis. Does that count as a celebrity?
