We had both for 3-4 years. There was some really good items at Sam's not available at Costco, such as Kauai coffee, and they had a really good price on gas. At that time our Costco didn't have gas. After Sam's discontinued my coffee beans and our Costco got gas we dropped Sam's. Since then it closed up and is now a Home Depot. The nearest Sam's to us now is about 36 miles away and there is no reason to join and go there with everything we need at Costco. We have two of those about 6 miles away in different directions, both with gas.

Random - not sure if it is related to why they dropped the coffee, but Kauai coffee got really sideways with a bunch of their clients years ago for selling a blend that was <10% Kauai beans and 90% something else and marketing at 'Kauai Coffee'.

Handsdown Costco for me. Quality of items, policies and service is way better than Sam's.

We had one or the other at separate times years ago, and neither for probably 10 years. Earlier this year we got both, because they seem to do a pretty good job at keeping their 'deals' exclusive. So we'll get certain things at Costco and certain things at Sam's.

I expect we'll keep both, but if we drop one it'll be Costco. Not really impressed with a lot of the Kirkland branded product, and Sam's seems to have better pricing on name-brand foodstuffs.

I have both but never use Sams anymore. Back in the family raising days it was nice having both, just for options. But now Coscto has everything I need and, in Austin at least, seems a bit nicer and better run than Sams.

Costco. The car rebates I've gotten alone have paid for more than 10 years worth of memberships. Signed up for the credit card recently so will be enjoying getting 4% back. Just a well run company from top to bottom and a total lack of "gotchas."
