... some from abroad. The hourly rate is not great, somewherefrom $9 to $12.
However, it may be a stepping stone to hone up one's language skill.

Japan and South Korea now seem to be a favorite destination for Philippine overseas workers. Previously many of them were going to the Gulf states especially Saudi to support themselves and their families back home. It’s closer to home. And perhaps surprisingly there’s a bridal surge of Korean men marrying Filipinas especially in the rural areas in farming communities.

It's because TSMC built a fab there and is offering much higher salary than usual rates in Japan.

Appreciate your input.
I was watching the inauguration of JASM presided by its founder. Already, a second foundry is in the plan.

Wrt South Korean men, they are looking as far as Vietnam for a bride. Even Singaporean men are doing so with the help of a Taiwanese.

Mail order brides from SEA have been an industry for decades.

They still are going to Gulf states. With nightmare stories of abuse coming from those states and Hong Kong it is the Japanese employer relationship which makes it among the most coveted locations to get a work contract.

The soft power of South Korea in pop culture along with Koreans going to the Philippines to learn English and open business opportunities is accounting for the surge in romantic relationships.

Yes one such case was intercepted in Vancouver, and the HK couple had to pay hefty fine(s).

Everywhere is very short of young workers.

@taiko that's an interesting perspective on why Japan and South Korea have become popular destinations for Philippine workers. The safer employer relationships and cultural soft power influencing romantic connections make a lot of sense.

I was doing a little research recently and found something interesting. One of the places where Filipinas go overseas to marry is the Faroe Islands, part of Denmark. The male population is primarily involved in the fishing industry. Many of the local females have left for Denmark for better jobs. Many of the Filipinas have lived there for years have children and even work in the local fishing industry. There’s a documentary out there on the internet somewhere.
