Only 16 more months and I'll be out of this deep freeze and back where I belong. We still have snow on the ground from November...it was minus 4 this morning with another inch of snow.......

The falls had a decent amount of water due to snowmelt. After taking pictures and eating lunch, we headed back up. It's quite a workout, uphill for 2.5 miles, but the views are amazing in winter when the foliage is off the trees. Hopefully, we can explore this area further in the next few months-it was a real treat!
Happy you enjoyed it. Arkansas is one of the nations best kept secrets. I prefer the Ouachita Mountains, but I guess it is because I have spent so much time there.

Hurry on down - but yesterday you would have thought you were still in NE 'cause we had 7 1/2 inches of snow/sleet in about 24 hours. Today it's melting fast where the sun can hit it, but the shaded areas will be here for quite a while. Black Ice!!!!

I have bummed all over the U.S. and continue to find the Arkansas Ouachita Mountains my favorite place. Attached is a view in Montgomery County. We were doing an archeology survey of a bulldozed fire line around the "No Man's Land Wildfire" and this is the area we were working in.Click image for larger version

This isolated grave is out in the boonies of east Pike County. The tall stone on the right is the head stone and crudely hand engraved into it is; NATHAN W. PHILIPS - BO. SEP 25 1851 - DIED - AUG 16 1867. We often worry about how many more like this are out there that we have not yet found.

This is a clear, cold mountain stream flowing across novaculite rocks on the Ouachita National Forest in the Ouachita Mountains of Montgomery County.

This small shot-gun house is all that remains of a small farming community now in the boonies of east Pike County. Since this photo was taken the house has been restored and is now serving as a deer camp.

When is spring break? We will go out. You may send me a DM if you prefer.

I first thought to post these in the photo Thread but was afraid they would get "lost" in the many wonderful photos posted there. These are some that few people have or will ever see, and some of them are so remote it would be difficult to find them without a guide.
