Arkansas has some of the prettiest scenery in the country, that really is the truth. But I have noticed a bit of surliness at times. Oklahoma tends to be friendlier IMO.

that may depend where in AR versus OK one lives. We did not find Tulsa or Muskogee particular friendly but we did find OKC pretty friendly. We also didn't get turned on the friendliness in Little Rock or even Ft Smith, but find NWA exceptionally friendly.

It's mainly just who you run into. People are people though for the most part.

No offense, but I've got to think your statement comes from a Texan mindset.
In 20 years, I've come across people who love Arkansas, wouldn't live anywhere else, hardly been anywhere else, and they stay in Arkansas simply because it's home and it's all they know. The rest just escaped ASAP. Half of them end up in Texas it seems like.
Rarely did I come across an Arkansas native who thought it was the "best place on earth." Literally could count them on one hand.
Now that I've said that, the inevitable chorus of "but everybody I talk to thinks it
is the greatest" will commence from those who live in enclaves full of transplants.
Those are the same parts of the state where you're most likely to see those silly Arkansas-shaped window stickers on the backs of cars with phrases like "home", "love", or even "native". I even saw one with a Cubs logo set inside the state-shaped sticker. Ugh.
Those sorts of things aren't all that prevalent statewide.
The main statewide evidence of state pride would be the Razorbacks. Even then, it doesn't come from a "we're the best" mentality (seriously, how could it?), rather a home-team sort of thing.

Truth is, I was just trying to inject a little humor here. Not sure where "teakboat" ran across people who were surly, but I suspect there are some of those in every state.
I have lived in the woods, and in the inner city. I have been to the desert and to swamps. I lived much of my life in what I call a Socialist Country, where you have to have the government's permission to exercise constitutional rights, and in places you can be arrested just for discussing Jesus Christ.
So yes, I am happy as a tick on a dog, here.
The people are friendly, even though I have lived here less than a month, they speak to me with respect and a welcoming attitude, so I won't apologize for being happy.
