We are considering moving back into the Cambridge/ Salem/ Greenwich areas. While going thru house listings, we noticed that there are TONS of houses for sale in Salem. We've been away for 3 yrs. Is something up that we don't know about? Thanks.

Yes! I wondered as well. Bigger bang for buck, Lower prices, but houses sitting?? Why? Conflicting reports from various sites about crime rate.

Salem is a arty little town just south of me. Lots of antique dealers and a cute cafe. Not at all crime ridden. Property taxes can be high though.

Trying to revive this thread if possible. Was looking at places in this town seems to be rural so maybe not alot of amenities around to keep people here. What about flooding or natural disasters that would cause people to get scared off.

It is rural and like many small towns, especially during Covid, businesses have closed. Nearest shopping would be Bennington, VT, again small town. Saratoga Springs/Wilton would be closest Target, Kohls, etc.
