- We are The White House on Freedom Way. We offer some of the most comfortable full service home and garden style magazine kitchens equipped with everything and more than most folks have in their kitchens. We have outdoor BBQs outdoor seating botanical gardens and primitive forest. We are right off the main highway that connects all the Northern Gates of Camp Lejeune and all of the little villages in the Southern Outer Banks. We have a variety of accommodations even your horses boats pontoons RV's and tents. If you are looking for Southern Hospitality Coastal Beauty History and great positive generational energy in a place we are the place. We are a historic family country estate from a generational family that has owned the property for nearly 200 years. The Taylor / Maready /Stanley Family have deep roots in the area. The matriarchs family is the Maready/Stanley. The families have raised families and their families have raised their families here. They built their own homes and farmed their own land. The White House was built nearly 70 years ago to start the union of Pansy B Maready and Norman E Taylor. They married in their youthful teen years and to this year in 2015 remain happily married. As of 1951 they had their first of 4 children and as they family expanded so expanded the home. In 2005 Norman Taylor II purchased the property from his parents and together with his business partner and Norman remodeled the home to bring it into the new millennia. This was the first time a family owned property in the area was purchased rather than inherited. The White House Property is 3 miles to the first of the Southern Outer Bank chain of Islands known as Bear Island. It is part of a protected incredible nature of 100's of acres and Hammocks Beach State Park. The island and the park except for some bathroom facilities and covered areas is as it was dunes for nearly 4 miles along the Atlantic no roads no nothing. When on Bear Island it is like being on a secluded island in the Atlantic. The island has some beautiful wildlife and dolphins swimming close to it's shore. The White House is also just 3 miles from the first gate heading west along Freedom Way aka Hwy 24. The gate is considered the side some the Northeast gate on hwy 172. We are in a perfect location to enjoy so much of the Crystal Coast of North Carolina. Swansboro is just barely 5 minutes down the highway to get to it's historic front street and all it's locally owned generational businesses. The buildings were built in the 1800's. Through out the year this beautiful little seaside village has incredible arts and crafts shows festivals and concerts series in the summer. We are on Freedom Way which was designated such in 1991 as the men and women of Camp Lejeune used Highway 24 for from the base to the Port in Morehead city to deploy to Iraq. Highway 24 is accessed by highway 17 Highway 40 or Highway 58. Our airports or OAJ Jacksonville Ellis airport or EWN Newbern Crystal Coast Airport we are just under an hour from either one. We are open year round we do minimum 2-3 nights, weekly and monthly. We have had guests from 2 nights to nearly 3 years. Lots to explore from here if you have the time. We serve many military families with parents grandparents and great grandparents and sometimes great great grandparents visiting the new family member by our military men and women. The visiting family members that stay with us love that they can get out of the kids way and come home to their own place and freedoms with that. We have some domestic farm animals that are friendly and roam the area as well as the wild critters of the forests from the turkeys, deer, bear, bats, owls, a myriad of song birds, raptors, foxes and so many more critters that you might see around the property and at nights in the sky most times you can see the Milky Way.
