Sensei Chip Perro offers traditional training in Shotokan Karate. Regular training includes basic technique and form (Kihon ), pre-arranged dance-like movements (Kata), and sparring (Kumite). These three components of training provide a solid and balanced foundation for the development of extraordinary martial arts skill. Emphasis on form and technique is stressed over rapid belt advancement. Perro Shotokan Karate is not a “sports dojo” where tournaments and trophies are the primary focus. The main goal of training is the development of a solid skill foundation to achieve maximum strength and effectiveness. The Dojo Kun is an integral part of the training experience, requiring students to strive for perfection of character, to respect their training and each other, and to refrain from violent behavior.
Prospective students are encouraged to explore their interest in Shotokan Karate by training for a month at the dojo, at no charge, and if this discipline matches their goals and objectives, they can officially begin their formal training after the initial month. There are no age requirements for training, but younger students must be able to participate in the beginner's training sessions for a full 45 minutes. Intermediate and advanced training sessions are an hour in length.
Because Karate training requires commitment and dedication, students must be motivated to do their best. There are no annual or monthly contracts or specified training time-frames; Karateka can choose their own training journey. Members can choose from a pay-by-class option or the more affordable monthly training program.
