- The Recording Arts Academy, is a school for individuals preparing for a creative career in the music recording and media arts. All of our sound engineering courses and electronic arts courses are designed to help each student develop the skillsets needed to realize their dreams. The 16-week program consists of instruction during two 3-hour classes and one 4-hour lab per week. Lectures are accompanied by hands-on training to create a comprehensive learning experience. Students will learn the art of recording music by tracking seasoned musicians during class time. Labs will give students the opportunity to record their own sessions with bands of their choice. Our recording program’s curriculum focuses on recording, mixing, mastering, music composition/electronica beat making and production, in a variety of genres. The program also includes an exhaustive study of Pro Tools and classic analog tape recording techniques. Our small class sizes are intimate, limited to 4 motivated students per term to ensure a quality experience and plenty of one-on-one instruction for each student. TRAA gear inventory is a state-of-the-art combination of classic analog and cutting-edge technologies. Students will learn to combine these elements to capture and create professional sounds. The Instructor Ben Blank has been in the audio business for 34 years. His credits include seven gold records and recording with the likes of 2 Live Crew,Grand Master Flash,Warren Haynes, Lucinda Williams, Slaid Cleaves, and many more. During this time, he has had professional experience in studio recording, digital mastering, live sound engineering,and post-production engineering. Most importantly, Ben is still active in these fields keeping him abreast of the latest technologies. In addition to being an accomplished studio engineer and musician, Ben has also been instructing recording, mixing, and mastering for over 15 years. The Difference The recording program at TRAA prepares students to be audio engineers and producers, not assistants. Our intense curriculum will give students the academic knowledge and practical experience needed to successfully make quality recordings. Assisting in real world recording sessions will teach students professional session workflow and how to cultivate client relationships. We strive to help our students develop clientele, so upon completion of the program they can start their career in audio engineering with confidence. Our philosophy is to provide each student access to industry standard facilities and equipment and a top-notch faculty of working professionals.
