Our diagnostic energy testing service for residential & light commercial buildings reports how the building works as a system with the HVAC to increase the durability of both saving money, repairs and costly replacements before they're anticipated life expectancy.
We analyze utility bills and determine the difference in heating & cooling to base line energy use such as lights, appliances & water heating. This analysis and information alerts us to areas of high energy use to concentrate on during the testing of the building system. Another tool we use in building diagnostics is pressure testing the buildings conditioned envelope while using infrared technology. The air changes per hour is measured while pin pointing major leaks and insulation problems. A similar pressure test is performed on the HVAC & duct system to see where heated or cooled air may be leaking to the outside, which is like throwing money out the window.
A detailed narrative report is supplied with pictures and diagrams of energy propblems and a course of job action to retrofit and repair the systems or re-commission equipment. We offer some retrofit services, however, we don't push or hardsell any products. We specialize as a third party diagnostic & consulting company. We can give you an idea of how much efficiency you can get, the estimated cost of energy retrofits and you return on your investment. If you elect to do the work or hire a contractor of your choice we will come back and quality check test to see how much energy and money you saved.
Another service of AltruEnergy is verification of the new NC 2012 Energy Building Codes for renovations and new construction. A building air leak test and duct leak test is verified before installing the final Energy Code Certificate. We can determine how close an existing building is to the new energy codes and offer a job description that will bring the building closer to code. This standard is a good energy benchmark for all homes & small businesses.
