In 1917 Harold Witbeck opened a modest GE appliance store on the outskirts of Detroit. Less than two decades later he built his own store, everything included, for the now paltry sum of $5,000. Through the years he added more brands and diversified his product lineup adding household goods and eventually vacuums. During WWII Harold's son Alexander sold vacuums door to door after store hours in order to stay in the business. After the war ended the store started to move towards luxury products that were the top in their class for quality, style and performance. Like Miele vacuums.
