  • Description:
  • Idaho Center for Regenerative Medicine was started in January of 2010. It is an Internal Medicine practice, with a focus on DOCTOR directed care of the patient in or near MENOPAUSE or andropause . It is designed to embrace an evidence based, alternative model to the practice of medicine with the goal of optimal “youthful” physiologic function. Is it possible to look, feel and function like you did 10, 15 or 20 years ago? I believe with the right integrative protocols and a motivated patient, it is definitely possibly! Conventional medicine, which I practiced for over 25 years and still do part time, is designed to keep you from feeling worse, getting worse or dying. It is not structured to look at the underlying causes of disease i.e., oxidative stress, nutritional deficiency, toxin build-up, hormonal insufficiencies etc.. ICRM is not just a MENOPAUSE clinic with a DOCTOR prescribing bio-identical hormones but a comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic , innovative methodology grounded in fundamental biochemistry, physiology and internal medicine. In other words, it is designed to make you better, which can be a complex, time consuming, labor intensive process. Orthodox “allopathic” medicine is often life-saving with spectacular results in the acute setting for acute, severe illness but its model doesn’t include how to make people optimally functional and healthy and obviate disease in the first place. It is reactive not proactive. For over 25 years as a Nephrologist and Critical Care physician, I have taken care of the sickest of the sick. My goals were always justifiably modest – i.e., to get the patient out of the ICU, then out of the hospital, off dialysis if possible, and to live independently at home, etc. These patients usually had multi-organ advanced medical problems. I was practicing salvage medicine. A tremendous amount of time, money and effort was spent to keep many of these patients alive another year, another month or another week. From the physician’s perspective, this is extremely frustrating because the great ICU save today may die on the floor next week. There is so little we can really do for so many of these patients in terms of quality of life and functional improvement. Yet, the vast majority of our health care dollars are spent in this way. So much of what we call healthcare is really sick care. I have often thought the patients with severe, chronic end stage disease that I cared for would have had a different fate had I been able to alter their lifestyle twenty years ago. Indeed, I got into medicine to make people better, to heal them if possible, not just to keep them alive for a short while with compromised overall function. So, I have changed the way I practice medicine and I am targeting people who are having some of the typical middle-aged problems but are motivated to correct things, to feel and function better and to avoid going down this path of worsening pathology. It would be easy to practice conventional medicine and add DOCTOR prescribed bio-identical hormones for MENOPAUSAL women and andropausal men to standard pharmaceutically driven therapy, but it would be incomplete and lack efficacy. My patients seem to have responded remarkably well to my biochemically fundamental ,therapeutic grid and for me, this is not only rewarding, but fun.
