- Lake Gregory /Crestline is one of the most beautiful places in the southern california mountains. A 2 mile walk around lake gregory is really a special walk. In the summer the kids enjoy the beach with its two water slides. A sandy beach with life guards invites swimming and the shallow water near the edge is a popular place for toddlers. You can rent boats and fish. Or rent a water pedal bike and skim along the top of the water. There is a snack bar and gift shop. Across the street is a large supermarket with a wonderful bakery. Many people bring a picnic lunch from home or pick one up across from the lake. Red surf board type floats are fun to float around in. I once feel asleep and crossed over to where there are large spray fountains in the lake. A life guard woke me up before I got sprayed. Crestline has two seconds. It really has 2 downtowns. The upper one is called Toptown. One of my favorite restuarants is there. It is called polly's. Make sure you try their sweet pototoe fries. The caboose is a local's favorite in top town. Small snops offer upscale gifts, clothing, childrens clothing and decorator ideas. Our senior thrift store is also there and treasures are kept behind the counter. Make sure you check their great book selection --great kids books and cookbooks. If you like pizza the best around is in top town right on the corner. The main part of crestline has 2 gourmet coffee shops (better than starbucks) they even bake their own goodies. I like the Bear place to eat next to the post office. Be sure to check the bargain tables at the gift store next to the post office. It is one of those rare stores that carries almost everything. Another of my favorite places in Crestline is the Crate. This little business bakes fresh cookies everyday. They ship them out in little wooden crates. Very unique gifts for people. You can go in and grab a few. They do sell them by the each. Next store is mcdonalds for a coffee to go. Homes that overlook the lake have wonderful views. Wow , to be able to look at that every day. A cool thing about crestline is that the streets that start with a letter like z are generally all together. Don't worry you still can get lost a bit when driving those back street. Crestline is mostly at around 3500 ft elevation but it does get higher in some spots. Great homes can be found that also face the desert. Variety in the mountains that is what crestline is. Be sure to see all the little streets that go up the hill above the lake. That and the back country is my favorite part. You are right at the 10 and the 30 going to the 215 and you can also go toward Victorville. These homes are less than an hour from Palm Springs, 1 hr from Temecula. Please consider a mountain cabin in beautiful lake gregory/ crestline. It is as close to the alps as you will get to in southern california.
