Listed below is my (Top 10) Old Vintage Sports Forged hit list. The stars on this list have their signatures forged more often then any other vintage athlete to date. The shear volume of forgeries seen from these immortals is what puts them on the (Top-10) list.
There are rarer autographs then most of these individuals. This is due to the extreme lack of legitimate authentic samples. The list below are from athletes that obtain a very high demand and are also the favorites. These spurious samples can be found on baseballs, gloves, photos, 3 x 5 cards, and cuts. Beware mostly of the signatures on cut pieces of paper. Forgers believe they can sign multiple times and simply cut out the ones that look the best. Also watch out for cuts on chain-line and vintage paper. These criminals will desecrate old books in order to obtain a medium that looks appropriate for the time frame. They will attempt this trick but to no avail. They cannot replicate the idiosyncrasies of the known author.
Many of these forged signatures were performed not for monitory gain, but to alleviate time for the athlete, i.e., secretaries and ghostwriters.
