Mario's Pizzeria & Deli was established in April 2006 because we couldn't find the quality of Pizzas & Subs that we were used to getting in & around Boston or Providence, RI., where Mario's family is from. We chose the town of Merrimac because it seemed to be a mixture of small-town friendliness with a sense of humor & an open minded attitude.
We had very limited experience in the food service industry (as some of our first customers can tell you), but we used our instincts and our desire to put quality ahead of profits to provide people with what we think is exceptional variety & quality on our menu. People still ask us "What's a Panini?" or "What's Sopressata?" everyday. We always enjoy explaining every menu item to them and even correcting the pronunciation when needed, with a smile.
