Oak Crest Private School, a co-educational, non secular, private school, located in Carrollton just off of President George Bush Turnpike and 35E. With an 8:1 student/teacher ratio, children can expect to receive a lot of one-on-one attention. Children take placement tests and are placed in their appropriate levels and then allowed to progress at their own rate. Our mission is to help students to maximize their potential and to create a solid educational foundation, which builds a joy of learning in each child. In order to accomplish this, one of the most important goals we work on with each student is a purpose for study. This makes their education something they build and “own”, not just something “they have to do.”
Due to the emphasis on complete mastery of each subject presented, our school does not use traditional grades where children are advanced based on a school year and their age. Instead, students must acquire a mastery of certain skills which are grouped in “Forms”. In order to graduate from a particular form, a student must master the material within each subject. Forms vary in length, but generally take between 15 and 18 months.
Reading has always been the key to one’s education. Starting with a strong foundation in phonetics and moving through an intensive reading program the student is introduced in a personal way to history, science and geography. This results in a student who reads well, reads a wide variety of books and literature, and through this enjoys reading also.
Our school is licensed to use the Heron Basics Curriculum™: a rich, diverse, individualized and practical program which focuses on real-world application and responsibility of the individual. The children are taught very effective learning techniques utilizing the educational philosophies of L. Ron Hubbard, an American philosopher and educator.
