- The Vocal Artist's Studio is a private music studio offering voice lessons and music training to near downtown Greenfield for ages 13 and up. The studio is owned and operated by mezzo soprano Eileen Ruby. Eileen trained in classical voice performance and music education at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst receiving a B.M. in 1989 and a M.M. in 1997, and has been teaching for 21 years. All vocal techniques are taught for any style or genre of music, with special attention to healthy vocal production supplemented with holistic lifestyle recommendations that are known to enhance success in music. Styles taught include classical, jazz, pop, blues, Christian, R&B, rock, indie, hard core, gospel and country. Music literacy is taught and encouraged for all students. The voice is an instrument and one can learn to read music fluently in voice lessons. Students who have studied with Eileen have gone on to major in voice and related music fields at many excellent schools including NYU Tisch, the Hartt Conservatory and Ithaca College. Eileen is also an experienced performer, having appeared as a soloist with the Springfield Symphony, the Pioneer Valley Symphony, Commonwealth Opera, The Holyoke Civic Symphony, The Keene Choral, and is a regular guest performer with the choral and orchestral groups at the area's five colleges. In addition to her work at the Vocal Artist Studio Eileen teaches voice part time at Holyoke Community College and Mt. Holyoke College. Students can expect creative solutions to all of their vocal problems in an uplifting professional environment. Eileen's warm, compassionate, and non-judgmental piano-side manner is grounded in years of studies of alternative health, philosophy, and comparative religion and spirituality. People looking for a way to release tension toward more authentic expression of their creativity through music will benefit from meeting and working with Eileen. Eileen has completed supplemental trainings in Integrative Acupressure; Usui Reiki Master; Aromatherapy Certificate; Flower Essences Practitioner Certificate; Estill Voice Training courses level I and II; Somatic Voicework, The Lovetri MethodTM levels I, II, & III; and has worked extensively with Body Mind Centering, Alexander Technique, Body Mapping, yoga and qi gong. These and other ongoing studies enable Eileen to offer students a fusion of the lineage based bel canto tradition with the most state of the art voice science and somatic research available. Lessons are scheduled by appointment. The rate is $65 per hour and $35 per half hour lesson. Group sessions are available for $20. Some partial scholarships and work exchange arrangements available.
