- We offer second hand, scholarly, used, out of print, rare and collectible books, sets and fine bindings. We also have paperbacks and hardcover books in the following subject areas: geography, anthropology, archaeology, history, astronomy, mathematics, physics, applied technology, chemistry, railroadiana, automobilia, aviation, naval & nautical history, psychology, natural history, games, politics and law, presidential history, biography, journalism, business & economics, children's books, illustrated books, cookbooks, crafts and hobbies, gardening & horticulture, theater, cinema, entertainment biography, circus, dance, music, americana, civil war, women's studies, african american studies, hunting & fishing, sports & outdoor recreation, golf, religion, eastern philosophy, philosophy, metaphysics, folkore & mythology, sociology, mystery fiction, science fiction, art criticism, art technique, art history, artists monographs, antiques, architecture & design, literature, literary criticism, essays, poetry, linguistics, foreign language, military history and reference books. We are located in downtown Sarasota, on Main Street, very close to the intersection of Lemon Avenue and Main Street. We can also be found exhibiting at numerous Book and Antiques Fairs throughout the country at various times of the year. If you are not from Sarasota, or, if your plans involve travel, please contact us, and we will let you know if we will be attending a show close to your home or your destination. Very often, we will take books in trade if they are the types of books we need or carry in our store. We also buy better books and fine private libraries. Please feel free to bring things to us, we will evaluate books at no charge, and, should you need a written appraisal for donation or insurance purposes, we can provide appraisal services at professional rates. We also offer guidance for collection development, assisting the beginning and seasoned collector in rounding out their personal library. Another service we offer is space planning and design for residential and corporate libraries; we can create a lovely and highly functional library for you with custom shelving and archival features to house, protect and preserve your books. We feel very strongly in the power of reading and education. With the approval of the Literacy Council of Sarasota, we have declared the 8th of every month to be Sarasota Literacy Day. On these days, we proudly offer a 10% discount to Sarasota's hard-working literacy tutors. We gratefully accept monetary donations for the Literacy Council of Sarasota during our regular business hours, making sure that 100% of these donations are relayed to them. Another very worthy cause to which we donate is Take Stock in Children, Sarasota County. This fine organization facilitates mentoring and scholarship programs for Sarasota's deserving at-risk children, believing as we do, that reading and education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty. Our 4-legged friends are not forgotten, either. Each month, we donate a Gift Certificate from our stores to the first adopter for that month of a retired greyhound from Sarasota's Racing Dog Rescue Project.
