Modern Builders Supply traces its family roots in the masonry supply industry back to 1952 and Modern Block, a concrete block manufacturing company in Oceanside. Partners Bill Gibney and Ray Raub joined forces and formed Modern Builders Supply in the early 1990's and were soon joined by partner Jim Thompson.
Originally focusing on their long experience in the concrete block industry the company soon became a major supplier to the largest production masonry sub contractors in San Diego County.
The company soon expanded their focus to the natural and artificial stone market. Modern Builders Supply had the distinction of purchasing the first truck load of El Dorado Stone ever sold in Southern California.
In the field of natural stone, Modern's growth and contributions in the industry were also significant. In addition to pioneering the development of natural thin veneer stone, they invested in what became the largest on site inventory in the business introducing numerous new quarries and products to the market and providing clients with a range of choices never before available.
In 2004 the San Diego Padres selected Modern Builders Supply from a large group of competitors to develop and supply the signature Padre Gold Sandstone® that clads the exterior of Petco Park. The company currently displays that trademarked stone on the facade of their new showroom in San Marcos as well as countless other unique stones and masonry products.
