Description:
Authentic German cuisine served in a beautifully renovated 1840 historic manor home that once belonged to Commodore William C. Whittle of The Confederate Navy. As a brief history, the Commodore's second eldest son, William 'Conway' Whittle, Jr. also owned the home after his father's passing in 1879 and was Executive Officer aboard the infamous 'CSS Shenandoah'-the last Confederate ship to surrender 4 months after the Civil War was officially over. This grand old home is a Greek-Revival style, two-story brick home that was a the home of refuge for the citizens of Buchanan during Hunter's Raid and Lee' Retreat and is mentioned fondly in Whittle Family letters and several historical documents. Come in a try our old German family recipes while you tour this magnificant home! We also carry German beers & wines and a fine selection of desserts. Open Wednesday thru Sunday from 12pm to 9pm. (Seasonal hours may vary-please call ahead). Outdoor 'Biergarten' dining available seasonally. Reservations strongly recommended on weekends and holidays. We also offer one lodging room w/ private bath and AC. Visit our website at http://www.therheinriverinn.com or call for more information.
