Following is some basic information on the tax credit which will apply to first-time buyers who purchase a home between November 7, 2009 and April 30, 2010. A first-time buyer is considered anyone who (the purchaser or his or her spouse) may not have owned a residence during the three years prior to the purchase. The Home Buyer Tax Credit can be used or applied to a primary residence which can incldue a single-family home, condo or townhome. The tax credit allows a maximum of $8,000 and up to $6,500 for current homeowners. Each buyer’s tax credit is determined by the price of the home and the buyer’s income.
