Description:
Originally dedicated on December 22, 1935, Santa's Candy Castle was the first attraction in Santa Claus, Ind. and the nation's first themed attraction. It was originally part of a larger themed attraction in the 1930's called "Santa Claus Town". The castle's construction was originally sponsored by the Curtiss Candy Company of Chicago, creators of the Baby Ruth and Butterfinger candy bars.
After being closed to the public for three decades, the castle has recently undergone an extensive restoration and was re-opened to the public in 2006. It once again operates as a family-oriented themed attraction that is open to the public with no admission charge.
Santa's Candy Castle contains a gallery of nostalgic memorabilia about the castle itself as well as the overall town of Santa Claus, Indiana. In Santa's Post Office, children can write letters to Santa Claus. Children can often visit with Santa himself on his frequent trips to the castle. The re-opened candy shoppe boasts the World's Largest Selection of Gourmet Candy Canes, over two dozen flavors of gourmet hot chocolate, a complete line of handmade confections, gourmet smoothies, and a selection of gift items and souvenirs.
