- Bainbridge Island's Christmas in the Country LLC was established in 1993 to help support artists, authors, musicians, home-based cottage industries, and nonprofit organizations. This winter time community event is a free driving tour held annually the first Friday, Saturday and Sunday of December, Friday & Saturday from 10am-5pm and Sunday 11am-5pm. Held in fascinating historic homes and farms, Christmas in the Country offers holiday shopping that is personal and homespun with quality art and handmade products intricately created by regional artisans and offered at value prices. Products range from fine art to country, fanciful and quirky decorative objects to functional haute couture and furniture. There are fragrant, designer soaps and delectable chocolates, savory and sweet crepes, holiday decor, sparkling jewelry, and even some collectibles. All of our favorite things. It's festive and fun. This meet the artists and greet your friends opportunity replicates the old-fashioned marketplace scene where goods were made and offered by folks nearby. Bainbridge Island's cultural propensity for the arts is obvious as customers continue to stream in the doors of our rustic barns or classic,cozy private historic homes even during the occasional Northwest rain or snow storms and even in a down economy. Nothing seems to quell the hunt for finding the perfect gift or one-of-a-kind treasure on this tour that is structured like a progressive party with live background music and festive decor. Kids find Santa awaiting the sharing of their secret desires and then are treated to free pony rides. A tour bus is available for carefree travel or one can enjoy a leisurely self-guided drive soaking in the beauty of scenic forests or water views along the rural, winding roads. This family-friendly event is supported by the Bainbridge Island Chamber of Commerce, local restaurants, and other local business sponsors and lodging associations who encourage tourists to come and stay awhile to soak in the milieu of our beautiful Island.
