Description:
Second Harvest Books is Wallowa County's largest new and used bookstore. We are open most days of the week. We specialize in local area books, books about the Nez Perce Indians (including Chief Joseph), books about Hells Canyon, literature of the west, books on the explorations of Lewis and Clark, the Columbia River, and books on wine (including wine fiction). We also have strong holdings featuring quilt books, biography, paperback westerns, romance, and occult, as well as general fiction. We haven’t forgotten children, either, as we have a collection of used books for them, too. We have three rooms of books, organized by sections and clearly labeled. We have a large used mass market paperback room. All our used books are reasonably priced. We are happy to order anything we don’t have in stock and we offer a free search service for hard-to-find books; we will mail these home for you or send them on to a friend. In addition to books, we carry maps and atlases of the local area, as well as numerous hiking and nature guides. During our famous Chief Joseph Days at the end of July, we have a western writer in residence to sign and talk about writing books. At our store, you will also find a selection of handmade greeting cards, postcards and occasionally a few games. Ghost stories are one of our most popular items for those dark campfire nights. We have two wildly popular books with local settings: The Shack by William Young; and Heart Full of Lies by Ann Rule. We always have a supply of these on hand. We feature the works of Bear Creek Press, our local publishing company, as they specialize in works related to Wallowa County and Eastern Oregon. Here you will find copies of the popular Wallowa County calendar containing beautiful photos of our area taken by local photographers. Occasionally, you may find a few treasures from Grandma’s Attic for sale on our shelves. We love tourists and aim to please your book interests. Please stop in when you visit Joseph, Wallowa Lake and the Wallowa Mountains.
