  • Kompukraft Systems - a True Small Business In the Beginning I began working on computers back in 1984 while a student at Bryant and Stratton. Back then Personal Computers were almost unheard of in fact I spent much of my time programming an old UNIVAC with punch cards. Of course Steve Jobs had developed the Apple but you needed to 'feed' it 5 1/4" inch floppies if you wanted to use it for anything – but it heralded the beginning of the consumer computer market. After leaving College I needed a job and almost began to sell machines from a company Called Sun. I had a young family though and needed a stable income, commission sales wasn't stable. Since my family required a stable income I took a job at a small machine shop where I was introduced to the Sharp Pocket Computer. That was all it took. In the Sharp Pocket PC you could easily perform statistical calculations as well as play games. Best of all I still have my first computer and it still works. My Sharp PC-1500A, along with its Tandy tape deck and docking station/ printer can still be put to use though it has been superseded by the likes of TI-83's and other 'programmable calculators'. In Business Since 1997 In 1994, while searching for a sound card, I met the owner of one of Rochester New York's pioneers in providing internet and computer service, Mr. Thomas Stehlar. His company was, Stellar Communications. It provided its customers comprehensive computer service; from building new machines to just plain keeping them running. Though acting as a Quality Consultant for Stellar Communications I spent much of my time working on customer machines. It was during that period that my son and I gained invaluable experience in 'teching' out machines. It was shortly after the advent of cable internet service that the owner of Stellar Communications felt he could no longer offer the kind of service he wanted to provide his customers. It was when he shut the doors for the final time that I considered getting into the business. Late in 1997 my son and I decided to continue in the footsteps of the founder of Stellar Communications' footsteps and offer much needed affordable computer services under the name of Kompukraft Computers. Between then and the present my son Thomas and I took used systems and parts and successfully recycled them into the machines of our customers. The first shop the company worked out of was in a basement of an apartment in East Rochester New York. In 2002 after moving to Canandaigua New York, we changed our company name to Kompukraft Systems which better reflects the services we offer. Kompukraft Systems offers everything from implementing LAN's and designing websites to getting old DOS systems to run. Even then Kompukraft provided superb service. As an ASQ Certified Quality Technician I intended to use my experience in the quality field to insure a high degree of quality of service. Kompukraft Systems remains dedicated to meeting and exceeding our customer's expectations. Re-use / Recycle - Legacy Systems Throughout the company's existence we have specialized in taking used, obsolete and discarded systems and transforming them back into their original condition. Yes, even in 1998 there were old and obsolete machines. As the owner of Kompukraft Systems I cut my teeth on the likes of early Xerox machines, Compaq 'sewing machines' with their orange gas plasma displays and HP Thinkjet printers. Today we even work on Apple Macintosh machines and clones. E-waste is a concern both for waste management specialists and all of us. E-waste piles up in landfills and often is not recycled. The best way to recycle anything is to extend its useful service. Kompukraft Systems firmly believes in recycling electronic – especially computers.
