The house, set on seven beautifully landscaped acres, is a true gem of the Greek Revival style, built in 1828. Guests have likened it to Tara, from Gone With the Wind. The Revolutionary battle of Kettle Creek, seven miles from Washington Plantation, secured north Georgia for the patriot side, and it was here that Eli Whitney perfected the cotton gin. Jefferson Davis, fleeing south after the fall of Richmond with his war cabinet, officially dissolved the Confederacy here, signing the document where the Courthouse now stands. We have three fine museums in Washington, with exhibits from prehistoric Indian times up to the present, wonderful antiquing, and fine dining as well. We are 100 miles from Atlanta, and less than one hour from the Augusta National Golf Club, home of the Masters Tournament.
