Carson: i-405 Atlantic Avenue has a place as an historic route of significance for the Los Angeles Area. At one time, Atlantic Avenue was a state route (California 15), and it served as the endpoints for two former U.S. routes. The intersection of Atlantic Avenue and California 1/Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach was the southwestern terminus of formerly transcontinental U.S. 6 and U.S. 91. Both were paired with decommissioned Alternate U.S. 101 along Pacific Coast Highway (U.S. 6 along southbound Alternate U.S. 101 and U.S. 91 along northbound Alternate U.S. 101 as Alternate U.S. 101 approached this intersection) Southbound Interstate 405 at Exit 25, Palo Verde Avenue.
