Description: This attraction, although geared more toward kids, is full of interesting information about Old Man River. One of the main draws is a detailed replica of the Mississippi River, which flows through the park. For a detailed chronology of the history and culture along the great river, visit the Mississippi River Museum. You can see a reconstructed 19th-century steamboat, witness a battle aboard a Civil War gunboat, and listen to the river hollers and work songs of the river roustabouts. Guided tours are available. To get to Mud Island, go to the ticket office on Front Street; then either walk across the pedestrian bridge or take the monorail across the Mississippi to the island. Open Tuesday through Sunday. The park is free, but there’s an admission charge ($8 for adults) for the museum. Parking is available near the Front Street side of the monorail for a charge. The monorail is $2 round-trip, but it is free with your museum ticket.
