Description: Situated in the heart of East Memphis in Audubon Park, Memphis Botanic Garden consists of 96 acres planted with all kinds of flowering plants, trees, and other flora. Starting in late February, when tens of thousands of daffodils begin flowering on Daffodil Hill, you’ll find something in bloom every time you visit until the first frost (usually October or November). Cherry trees become clouds of pink blooms in March, dogwoods flower in April, and, for much of the summer, roses, daylilies, and cacti are spectacular. Also notable are the Tennessee Bicentennial Iris Garden, which celebrates the state flower, and a Japanese tranquillity garden, which is open year-round. A number of these gardens date from the 1950s and 1960s.The botanic garden is a popular spot for picnics and strolls for everyone, and gardening enthusiasts can take advantage of its extensive education program. The main building, Hardin Hall, is a popular place for parties, weddings, meetings, and other events and also has a small gift shop. A series of popular evening concerts and other events take place on the grounds in the summer. It’s open every day, and admission is free after noon on Tuesday.
