Description: Located just across Union Avenue from AutoZone Park and close to Beale Street and Peabody Place Entertainment Center, the Doubletree Hotel Memphis has a T.G.I. Friday’s restaurant downstairs and 280 rooms upstairs. It opened in 1996, after its owners invested $24 million to convert the old Tennessee Hotel (built in 1929) and other buildings into a modern hotel. The brick arched wall that separates Friday’s from the main lobby is the facade from one of those buildings. The dimly lit lobby is outfitted with comfortable chairs and sofas as well as tables and a fountain. All three meals, including breakfast, are available at Friday’s, part of the chain famous for its festive atmosphere and frozen drinks. Hotel rooms are larger than in most downtown hotels, and many include good-size bathrooms, with a separate shower stall and tub, as well as the usual amenities. An outdoor swimming pool and a small fitness center are on the third floor. Ask about the special Redbirds package and other deals. Because parking is so tight in the area, valet parking is advisable ($20 a day). You’ll probably want to steer clear of the Greyhound Bus station next to the Doubletree.
