Description: Hats off to owner Flo Triska—literally! For years she and husband Ralph have been running this upbeat Cajun-style restaurant, and people show their gratitude by donating their chapeaus of all shapes and sizes to the area’s largest hat display—right in the restaurant. This wood-framed eatery is set on the creek in Murrells Inlet and features Cajun and Creole food that’ll make you think you’re in steamy New Orleans. In the spirit of Mardi Gras, the clientele has been known to form a conga line through the indoor/outdoor dining room. An all-time favorite menu item is the Dunkin’ Pot, a large cast-iron kettle filled with jumbo spiced shrimp, clams, mussels, oysters, corn on the cob, red potatoes, and crawfish. (If you don’t know how to eat crawfish, Flo will come by and demonstrate. It’s really elementary: Snap off the tail and suck the head first; then peel the tail shell away, revealing the plump meat, and pop it in your mouth.) Grilled, fried, and sautéed platters include shrimp, oysters, fish fillet, and scallops seasoned with a light lemon, butter, wine, and parsley sauce. All that comes with a bed of seasoned rice, crawfish potatoes, okra and tomatoes, and garlic bread. Other time-tested favorites are the authentic po’boy sandwiches, served on grilled French bread—marvelous! All the food here is made from scratch. Quench your thirst with a Pitcher of Watermelons, a fruity punch with a kick of rum and vodka. “Good food, great time” says it all. Flo’s Place is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week.
