Description: Some visitors at the northern end of the Grand Strand might find it quickest to visit Loris, an acute-care, nonprofit community hospital. Loris has a capacity of 105 patients, all in private rooms. The hospital also runs a separate 88-bed, skilled nursing assisted facility known as the Loris Healthcare System Extended Care Center.Loris Hospital offers 24-hour emergency service, cardiac rehabilitation services, same-day surgery, a modern intensive-care unit, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), a CT scanner, nuclear medicine, extensive outpatient services, an obstetrics unit with childbirth and breast-feeding classes, and nutritional counseling.A 26,000-square-foot center for health and fitness houses cardiac rehabilitation, physical therapy, hydrotherapy, exercise programs, and meeting facilities. Regular classes focus on smoking cessation, weight loss, and low-fat cooking. Unlike other hospital-sponsored wellness programs, Loris Community offers use of its fitness facility to the public in an effort to keep people out of its beds through prevention.The fitness center offers a variety of aerobic classes, including Seniorcize and water aerobics, plus cardiovascular and strength-building equipment. In fact, the center quickly earned a local reputation as an “unofficial” community spot, being selected by community members as the site for wedding receptions, gatherings, and programs.Loris Healthcare System also operates Seacoast Medical Center. Located in Little River, this 24-hour emergency and same-day surgery facility makes health-care services more easily accessible to the communities of Longs, Little River, North Myrtle Beach, and Calabash. Loris Healthcare System has also opened a full complement of medical offices, including Calabash Imaging and Diagnostic Center, Extended Care Center, Family Health Centers in Loris and Mt. Olive, and Rainbow Pediatrics in Loris and Little River. It offers extensive community outreach programs.Loris Healthcare System continues to enhance health services in the region by providing new services and renovations to existing facilities, including the open MRI services conveniently available at Seacoast Medical Center and enhanced Women’s Services with the addition of new labor, delivery, and recovery suites.
